VISUAL ARTS PROGRAM
Classes and Courses
AP ART
Throughout this intensive course, students have the opportunity to push their skills, techniques culminating in a portfolio. The course credit is accepted by many colleges as an introductory art class.
GRAPHIC DESIGN
Our Graphic Design courses explore the Principles of Design, careers in the arts, and Art History. Our CEP course earns college credit and is a comprehensive exploration into design.
ART CLASSES
Our High School and Middle School curriculum includes multimedia, painting, drawing and sculpture. Students learn Art History, exploring art that spans across time and culture. The art classes are conducted like an art studio where each student is able to explore and express themselves.
STUDENT WORK
Visual Arts Department
Art Classes are engaging explorations in various media and techniques. Art history is taught, as well as, learning about different cultures across the globe. The fundamentals of art and design are highlighted in both assignments and discussions. Students learn and understand the techniques and mechanisms that inform art: perspective, value and tone, shape, and form, composition, line, space and texture. Moreover, rhythm, balance, contrast, dominance, proportion and harmony/unity are explored on two dimensional surfaces. Art is a form of visual communication; therefore, students continually reflect on their thoughts (both written and verbal), on the work of other artists, cultural art traditions, and art history. In addition, students are required to participate in weekly critiques and keep a journal and a sketchbook of their writings, thoughts, and ideas for their artistic development.
